What is Leadership? Definitions, Qualities, Synonym and Styles

Leadership-Definitions-Qualities-Synonym-Styles

What makes someone a leader? The answer depends on how you define leadership.

What is leadership and what is a definition? For an approach to the topic of leadership, it is important
to first clarify what is meant by it.
It is about features of, perspectives and definition of leadership...
There are currently over 50 different definitions of the term, some of them are completely in different
directions. Of all these definitions, only one is important and relevant to us as per me.
Your answer to the question » What is leadership? Determines when you are a leader.
Your definition of leadership is the benchmark against which you can compete. It determines whether
you see yourself as a leader and how good you are in it. However, many leaders have not yet begun
to think deeply about how they define leadership or leadership for themselves. Allow me, therefore,
to propose my definition of the question to you:
Definition: Leadership is essentially influence on people
What does leadership mean? What exactly is meant by the guidance of people? Leadership as a term
is not only used in relation to people, but also to other things such as companies, automobiles or dogs.
This usually means some form of steering and influencing, and that also applies to human leadership.
Although there are many attempts in science to grasp and define the phenomenon of leadership it can
still be summed up in one central core. Leadership is defined as follows:
Leadership is the purposeful manipulation of the experience and behaviour of individuals and groups
within organizations.

Leadership is characterized by the following features :
Leadership is a process
According to this definition, leadership is a process of influence that takes place between people. It does
not have to be limited to one person and can take place between people. Influence can take place in
many different ways, such as rewards and sanctions, rational arguments or emotional approaches such
as the mediation of ideology.
Leadership is purposeful
Leadership also refers to experiencing
Leadership refers to individuals, but also to groups
Leadership is influencing within organizations
Leadership has to do with power
Leadership can be exercised in a divided manner
Leadership is not tied to a formal position

There is a blog on Deciding the effective way of presentation Approach and Method.
Anyone assuming a leadership position for the first time wonders rightly: What am I doing here? What is
leadership? Too often, we come to the leadership with all the other tasks. Mostly they were chosen
because they were simply the best in the team. Nobody told them what leadership means, and they
have not had enough time to deal with it themselves.
To fill the leadership position with confidence, one must

1. realize what leadership means.

2. Is to examine which skills and methodological skills you need to develop in order to be
able to implement this claim.
From my point of view, leadership has a threefold responsibility and a threefold opportunity linked to it:
Leadership-Definitions-Qualities-Synonym-Styles

  • Responsibility to the company
  • Responsibility to the employees
  • Responsibility to yourself

What is leadership? Responsibility to the company!

When you take the lead for a team, department or area, you take responsibility towards the company.
They claim by this decision: I will ensure that my area of responsibility brings results, fulfils its role and
evolves.
At first glance, this does not differ so much from what you as a 'normal' employee have done, namely to
bring performance. Otherwise, you would not have got the position. However, many find it difficult to
suddenly identify with their own professional performance. Before, you were satisfied when you
personally achieved excellence. Now it would be ideal if you made sure that your team performs
excellently and that you make the least direct contribution. They should bring leadership.
That's a big switch to throw in your head and many objects to me, "No, that's not it. After all, I'm also
operating myself and still have to do the job myself. "So what? This is normal for team or group leaders,
but it happens next to leadership. At that moment, you are an employee in your own team and have
technical and operational responsibilities. In your leadership role, you perform leadership tasks. Does
the daily business keep you from it? Leadership is your daily business.
If you are a beginner in leadership, there is a great deal of temptation to neglect and over-reliance on the
usual operational tasks that make you feel safe. There is usually enough to do, especially before a lot of
you hung. It is easy to convince yourself that there is no other way and that there is simply no time for
this leadership topic. But you neglect the responsibility as a leader to the company. If someone does not
fill their position, a hole is created.
Your area of responsibility fulfils its function when the topics, projects and tasks assigned to it run
independently and the interaction with the interfaces - the other areas of responsibility - works. What
this means in concrete terms depends on the functional and hierarchical classification in the company.
Responsibility to the company may include direct responsibility towards customers or suppliers, for
example when your team is in sales or service. So you need an overview of all topics for which you are
responsible with your employees and you need the exchange with the contacts of the interfaces. Is your
team a reliable gear in the corporate fabric or even a drive, an accelerator or a bottleneck?
What chance is associated with this responsibility? The greater your area of responsibility, the greater
your chance to influence and shape. You have to do it and you can do it. If something bothers you and
you can not influence it, it can be quite frustrating. The more responsibility you have, the more you can
shape your working environment and secure it for the future.

What is leadership? Responsibility to the employees!

Employees earn their livelihood from their work on the team. Often it depends not only single but family
existences. Not only for the sake of the cause and for the sake of the company must the manager make
this service possible, but also for the sake of the employee.
What do employees need, generally speaking, to achieve performance?
information
resources
Skills
motivation
Feedback
At least the goals and expectations must know employees. Too often, employees get bad reviews
without their expectations being made clear. They also need information on their specific tasks. They
do not always have to come from you, but you have to make sure that the flow of information is clear.
Does the amount of work your employees have is reasonably adequate for their working hours? If not,
are the priorities clear? Do they have reasonable resources or do the loading times of the ancient
computer miserably cost a lot of time and nerves? In short: Are there enough resources available?
This is an issue that many leaders struggle with each other and with their superiors because of resources
are related to budgets and they are limited.
Resources and information are of little use without professional, methodological and social skills.
As a leader, you not only distribute the tasks according to the skills but also ensure the further
development of the employees. This also means that you have to look a little bit into the future,
where your business and the technologies are moving in the market. Will your employees, with their
skills that match today's skills, be able to remain 'top performers' in three years' time?
The motivation of the employees ensures that they use their skills as well. Your first responsibility is
not to destroy this motivation by putting unnecessary stones in the way or positioning yourself as a
disgusting package. True motivation comes from within. As a leader, however, you can influence it if you
know the factors influencing motivation. An important basis is the fulfilment of basic mental needs for
social relationships, autonomy and control or effectiveness.
I wanted to give feedback first to the information because ultimately it is information on how you assess
the performance and behaviour of your employees. For this, employees need and want feedback.
Even if it is sometimes uncomfortable at the moment. At some point, telling you that you have been
dissatisfied with certain behaviours or achievements for years is hardly fair and ultimately just means
that you have not performed your leadership.
In addition, as a direct manager, you represent the employer towards the employee, and thus you are
bound by legal obligations, such as a duty of care. In particular, occupational safety is an issue
in this context.
Why are you doing this? Responsibility to your employees is an opportunity to provide others with an
environment and guidance that will maximize their benefits.
What is leadership? Responsibility to yourself!
In your leadership position, you are required as a person. Employees, colleagues, supervisors and
yourself use this position to link expectations to your attitudes, behaviour and abilities.
Sometimes, the picture comes to my mind as if the companies were taking excellent handball players,
putting them in the Bundestag and saying, "Show what you can do now!" And no one dares to ask, "How
does that work?" Believe somehow Everyone, soccer would have been seen often enough and you
could play that as well. No! It's another game for which you have to learn the rules and practice the
techniques intensively. And as soon as one stops developing, one breaks down.
Leadership is a different game than the operative work. If others trust you in this game and you feel like
it, this is a good prerequisite, but not enough. It is part of the responsibility of oneself
to become aware of its role diversity
initially to admit the beginner status
to demand the necessary support, training and coaching
to gradually develop into the role and position
Reflection and feedback are essential foundations for developing a good leader. Who has the claim to
dominate the football game from one day to the next?
The nice thing is that you can develop much longer in leadership than in football and at 50 are far from
being old. Make sure that you acquire the necessary knowledge and skills and become the personality
you want to be a leader.

Perspectives on leadership
There are different perspectives on the leadership of people, Some of them are unfamiliar but still very
important when it comes to successful cooperation and career.
Key perspectives on leadership are:
In general, organizations understand leadership as a leadership down, as the leadership of subordinate
employees. This perspective of leadership in the narrower sense is certainly classic and obvious on the
subject of leadership. Companies usually invest without reservations in training and personal
development and expect their executives to further develop these skills. The connection with the
operational success appears clear since it is wished that executives implement the goals from above
with their coworkers by influence. As a matter of course, leadership coaching usually provides only this
perspective.
In addition, there is also the term lateral leadership, which is defined as the leadership of hierarchically
equal persons. Not infrequently, lateral leadership is required to successfully complete projects. Those
who fail to work well together and forge alliances on one level will have disadvantages as leaders.
Although this is an essential aspect of the practical success of a department that is responsible for a
manager, there are hardly any approaches in training and textbooks.
Also in the interaction with external groups such as customers and other interaction partners
(eg suppliers or service providers) is an important perspective of leadership. Only those who know
how to steer the behaviour of these relatively independent groups on the desired paths can actually act
successfully as leaders.
Conclusion

Leadership-Definitions-Qualities-Synonym-Styles

Self-leadership is an essential leadership competency. This ability is a prerequisite for the leadership
of other people. Anyone who is not suitable as a role model has no goals or cannot achieve his goals
systematically and organized, will find difficult acceptance and success as a leader. One of the
statements agrees with this finding: "He is commanded who cannot obey himself." In addition,
the successful "balance" (better integration) of private life and work is also in this area. This too is a
prerequisite for high performance as a leader.
Those who get the change to a position with leadership responsibility for the first time are often unsure.
Many doubt whether they are indeed fit for the new job and whether the staff will even accept them as
superiors. In addition, there is often confusion over what knowledge a good leader has to bring, as the
understanding of leadership has changed significantly over the past decades. To be sure, in some
companies there are still bosses who like hierarchy order what kind of work and which staff has to do.
But these superiors are having an increasingly difficult time - too much of the demands placed on
executives. Not only the markets have changed. The values, wishes and expectations of employees
have also evolved. Leadership is no longer a matter of giving directions and monitoring their fulfilment.
The trick is to give employees motivation and committed work. It is important to influence an individual
or a group in a goal-oriented and results-oriented way so that joint projects are implemented. To master
the associated challenges, technical skills alone are not enough.
Managers should expand their perspective on leadership as much as possible to capitalize on the
strengths of different perspectives. It is important to understand the tension and the different interests
within the organization and to lead it successfully in all directions.
Those who only see the perspective of the leadership downwards and remain stuck in it, build up
valuable opportunities in their professional lives, because it overlooks significant other fields of action
of the leadership. It quickly becomes a plaything for other interests and controlled by superiors and
colleagues or gets into conflict situations - even with oneself and private interests.

Buying Signals for Salespersons.

Recognizing Buying Signals is crucial to closing a sale for all the salespersons like me and you.  At times there are opportunities we can get a commitment to a sale from the customer. we should be sensitive to the clues.  When we recognize the buying signals, that's the time we may want to cut down your presentation and go for the close.  Make the transition carefully and don't be abrupt. A good way of transitioning is to summarize the benefits (not more than three benefits at a time). Then start the paperwork to close the sales. Positive buying signals are like green lights for you to go ahead, and the opposite is just as true. Negative buying signals are your stop signs, which mean the prospect is telling you, ' I am not Convinced yet'. It does not mean that you leave the prospect and move on this is the time to show more benefits and use The Impulse Factors for closing the sale. The Prospect gives positive buying signals in the fo

Goal setting- SMART, Personal (Short, Medium or Long term)

We know that Goals setting (SMART) for personal whether short, Medium or Long term are very important because they give us a sense of direction. Most people are vague about what their major goals are in life. They think that I want to be rich, happy and make a good living are goals. These are all wanted and none of them are clear goals. How can we reach a destination that has not been defined? There is a lot of wisdom in these three words- destination determines direction. As we have heard Talent will get you to your destination but provided you know where it is. Goal-setting is a series of steps. The components of goal-setting are similar to that of a plane ticket. When you buy a Plane ticket, what does it say? It gives starting destination, date, time; finish destination date, time; class of travel, distance, price, etc. Goals must be SMART.
